You will love our four secluded log cabin rentals in the heart of Wisconsin's Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest on crystal clear, spring fed Butternut Lake.
Located in Forest County, Butternut Lake is 1,246-acres with a maximum depth of 42 feet. It is surrounded by National Forest and 75% of the shoreline is undeveloped.
Riepenhoff's Butternut Lake Cabins are family owned and operated. We provide a traditional "up North" lakeside vacationing experience for families, fishing enthusiasts, and nature lovers of all interests.
Butternut is famous for its fine catches of smallmouth, walleye, northern pike, and panfish. Nearby you'll find great trout streams and lakes for musky fishing. Your northern Wisconsin cabin rental includes a 14 foot fishing boat.
With its gradual, sandy shores and clear water, Butternut is perfect for swimming and all kinds of water sports.
Right outside your cabin door the National Forest beckons while the nearby resort towns of Three Lakes and Eagle River offer further up north adventures.
Our Smallmouth, Bluegill and Perch cabins are relics of the late 19th-century logging era of Wisconsin. While the Walleye is a replacement cabin, the Smallmouth, Bluegill, and Perch have survived and flourished as part of a fishing camp, family resort, private ownership and finally as our Riepenhoff Butternut Lake Cabins.
As stewards of the north woods, we strive to honor the history of the early camp days while providing a comfortable woodsy lakeside getaway for our guests. Our goal is to offer a true up-north experience for families, fishermen/women and nature lovers of all interests. With that in mind, we continually update and add improvements while making every effort to keep the charm of the past.

Riepenhoff's Walleye, Smallmouth, Bluegill, and Perch Cabins in the heart of the Nicolet National Forest are immaculately clean and completely furnished.
Bring your own sheets, towels, and paper products. We supply single-ply toilet paper to ensure best functioning of our septic system.

Access water sports just steps from your cabin door. Our shoreline is crystal clear with a gradual, sandy shore. We have 2 piers, two 14-foot aluminum fishing boats, a canoe, 3 kayaks, a paddle boat, 2 paddle boards, assorted water inflatables, and a swimming raft. There are plenty of water "toys" for everyone.
Numerous National Forest lakes surrounding Butternut offer additional opportunities for water sports, swimming, and picnicking.
Biking & Hiking
Just step outside the cabin door. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest's scenic roads provide dozens of sight seeing and biking opportunities. Numerous marked forest trails offer hiking and wild berry picking.
